Overview

A team of tunnelers is constructing a tunnel on the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM). The film's protagonist, foreman Konstantin Basargin, is a well-known and respected figure, his name known far beyond the construction site. But his fame has gone to his head. An earthquake causes an accident at the mine, and during this time, Basargin takes a personal leave of absence.
