Andrea Caccia was born on the Piemontese banks of the Ticino River. After studying painting and film directing, he devoted himself to creative documentary filmmaking and to teaching visual language as a primary tool for exploring and interpreting reality. A curious experimenter with techniques of staging, cinematography, and editing, he has directed a wide range of works, developing a distinctive and elusive personal style in which documentary and fiction mirror one another without ever fully recognizing each other. He has directed four feature films and several medium-length and short films, often also working as cinematographer and editor. His films have received awards and have been selected for numerous Italian and international film festivals, including the Venice Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Locarno Film Festival, Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Torino Film Festival, Filmmaker Festival, and Pesaro Film Festival. Alongside his filmmaking career, he teaches Film Directing and Documentary Filmmaking at the Luchino Visconti Film School, IULM University, and the Michelangelo Antonioni Film Institute. He lives and works on the Lombard banks of the Ticino River.
